Rising from the ashes of a devastating fire that consumed much of the region in 2021, HEARTWOOD is the rebirth for a family that has occupied these grounds for many generations.

As a moment amongst the trees and lands of the Brookdale area, this specific site has seen abundant transformation. From initial habitation, to the years spent raising a family, to the destructive effects of a fast-moving wildfire. The family and lands have a shared story and embedded memories both past and future.

In the rebirthing of the site inspiration was been drawn from the very nature of that which can feed the growth of a tree, a forest, a family. That source of energy and tranquility is often not the most obvious path, and often not the seemingly clearest. Sometimes the path that feeds the rings of our lives is one that meanders its way through years, obstacles, opportunities, and experiences.

Both within the tree itself, as well as the site & forest as a whole -  the medullary paths formed from family to forest are intertwined and, in this concept, produce inspiration for rebuilding the next stages of a home woven within its landscape.
